Nothing in life is to be feared, it is only to be understood. Now is the time to understand more, so that we may fear less. -Marie Curie
The Last Word
Every day, at universities and colleges around
the world, countless people work to “understand more.” We work, we learn, we teach, we question, we research, and together we all grow and try to make the world a better place in which to live.
The University of Minnesota Medical School
is honored to have a place among these universities and colleges and join the work developing better ways to train students, discovering new paths of research, and treating patients. We work as part of this worldwide community that provides compassionate, evidence-based care to people who suffer, restoring them to health and their communities.
In sharing with you the best of what we are doing to serve Minnesotans, we hope you see opportunities for collaboration and partnership.
As a land-grant university, our first responsibility is to the people of our state, but as citizens of the world, we hope to impact medicine far beyond our borders.
As 2020 opens before us—the start of not only a new year, but a new decade, we see promise in that future that grows greater every year. We hope that by sharing our work, you will be heartened and inspired in your own.
We wish you and yours all the best for success, but also for mistakes that revolutionize your thinking, for unexpected obstacles that you rise to overcome, and for growth and discovery beyond your wildest dreams.
All the best in 2020, Jakub Tolar, MD, PhD
